The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. Taxis, ride‑hail apps and local buses (guaguas) run along the main avenue. A car only matters for independent trips to Macao, Higüey or the south coast.

Frequently asked questions

Is Playa Bávaro public?

Yes, like all beaches in the country. Hotels occupy the shorefront, but the sand is public, with access points at El Cortecito and Los Corales.

Does Bávaro have calm sea?

For most of the year, yes — because of the reef a few hundred meters off the coast. On days with strong easterly winds there can be waves.

What is the difference between Bávaro and Punta Cana?

Bávaro concentrates most of the hotels and commerce; Punta Cana, to the south, is near the airport and is more residential.

How to go from Bávaro to Santo Domingo?

By bus with Expreso Bávaro, in about three hours, or by car on the highway, in two and a half hours.
