About All Saints' Church, Bakewell
All Saints Church sits on a slope above Bakewell town centre, and its octagonal tower with spire is visible from several points in town. A church has stood on the site since before the Norman Conquest, and the present building contains 12th-century elements, later enlargements and extensive 19th-century restoration.
In the churchyard are two Anglo-Saxon stone crosses with carved figures and ornamentation. Inside the church there is a collection of carved stone fragments, many from ancient tombs, and funerary monuments of the Vernon family, former owners of Haddon Hall, and of the Manners family.
The visit is short and pairs well with a stroll around the town centre: from the church you can go down to the market square, the market and the bridge over the River Wye.
