About Ordsall Hall
Ordsall Hall is a Tudor manor house in the Ordsall district of Salford, near Salford Quays. The oldest parts date back to the medieval period, and the site is protected as a Grade I listed building.
The property passed to the Radclyffe family in the 14th century and remained with them for about three centuries. The great hall, with its timber frame, dates from the early 16th century. After the Radclyffes the house had many uses — from private residence to school and workers’ club — until it was bought by Salford Corporation in the early 20th century.
A local tradition links the house to the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, but there is no documentary evidence to confirm this. Today Ordsall Hall operates as a museum, with furnished rooms, exhibitions on the history of the house and of Salford, and period gardens.
The visit pairs well with Salford Quays and The Lowry, a few minutes away.
