The city
The city of Salford, about 6 km from central Manchester, which gives its name to the Eccles cake, the raisin puff pastry sold there since the late 18th century. It sits beside the Bridgewater Canal and the Manchester Ship Canal, where the Barton Swing Aqueduct, the rotating aqueduct of 1894, operates. Ordsall Hall and The Lowry, in Salford, are a few kilometres away.
