About Huanca Identity Park

Parque de la Identidad Huanca is in the San Antonio neighborhood, about 3 km northeast of downtown Huancayo. It was designed in the 1990s as a tribute to the artists who gave the province its name and to Wanka culture.

Almost everything in the park is made of stone: pirca walls, arches, bridges and paths that recall typical constructions of Junín. Water channels and native plants complete the design, which imitates the valley landscape.

The statues represent singers and musicians from the region, such as Flor Pucarina and Picaflor de los Andes, and huaylarsh dancers, the valley dance declared a National Cultural Heritage. One of the best-known pieces is a giant sculpture in the shape of a carved mate burilado, the gourd engraved with scenes of rural life, a traditional art of the Mantaro valley.
