The city

What to expect from Huancayo.

Capital of the Junín region, in the Mantaro Valley, at about 3,250 meters elevation. The Plaza de la Constitución, where the cathedral stands, preserves the memory of the Cádiz Constitution and the abolition of slavery decreed there in 1854. Around the city are the Parque de la Identidad Huanca, the Cerrito de la Libertad viewpoint, the clay towers of Torre Torre, the Wari Willka sanctuary and, further north, the Convent of Santa Rosa de Ocopa. It is the city of papa a la huancaína.
