About Cerrito de la Libertad

Cerrito de la Libertad is Huancayo’s lookout hill, about 1 km east of the center. From its heights you can see a large part of the city and the Mantaro valley, with the mountains in the background.

The site holds significance in the city's memory: the hill is associated with episodes of Peru’s political history in the 19th century, linked to Marshal Ramón Castilla and the civil wars of the 1890s.

Today the Cerrito functions as a recreational park for Huancayo families. It has leisure areas, playgrounds, a stone band shell used for performances and a small zoo.

It is an easy stop on the way to Torre Torre, which is on the same side of the city.
