About Kaiteriteri Beach

Kaiteriteri Beach is a crescent-shaped bay of golden sand, sheltered between two rocky headlands and forest, with calm, clear water on windless days. The sand’s color comes from the local granite, the same rock found on the beaches of Abel Tasman National Park just to the north.

Boats to the park’s coves depart from the beach itself, and there are kayaks for hire and guided tours. In summer the beach fills with families, especially at Christmas, New Year and on January weekends, with the lawn and picnic area crowded.

There are short trails to viewpoints from the headlands, such as Kaka Pa Point, and smaller beaches like Little Kaiteriteri beside it. Behind the village, the Kaiteriteri mountain bike park has trails for various skill levels.
