The city

What to expect from Hamilton (Kirikiriroa).

Hamilton (Kirikiriroa in Māori) is the largest inland city in New Zealand and the capital of the Waikato region, crossed by the Waikato River. On the riverbanks are the Hamilton Gardens, with themed gardens from various cultures, and the Waikato Museum, which displays the war canoe Te Winika. It’s the most practical base for Hobbiton, near Matamata, and for the Waitomo caves.
