About Kea Point Track
The Kea Point Track is the shortest walk for those who want glacier and high-mountain views without a climb. It starts from the village of Aoraki/Mount Cook, crosses the valley through shrubs and alpine grass, and reaches a wooden viewpoint atop the Mueller Glacier moraine.
From the viewpoint you can see the grey Mueller Glacier lake, the ice-and-rock face of Mount Sefton with hanging glaciers, and, in the background of the Hooker Valley, Aoraki/Mount Cook when the weather allows. On warm days it’s common to hear ice and rocks falling from the slopes.
The route is almost flat and well marked, suitable for those short on time or for late in the day after the Hooker Valley Track. The name comes from the kea, New Zealand’s mountain parrot, which sometimes appears in the area.
