About Schiessentümpel

The Schiessentümpel, Schéissendëmpel in Luxembourgish, is a small waterfall on the Ernz Noir, the stream that runs through the central valley of the Mullerthal, about 1 km from the village of Müllerthal. The water drops in three short falls over sandstone blocks, among trees and moss, and just above them a rustic stone arched bridge spans the stream.

The combination of the bridge and the waterfall became the most reproduced image of Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland and appears on the country’s postcards and brochures. The waterfall is small, with only a few meters of drop, and the flow varies by season: it is usually greater in spring and after rains, and lower at the end of summer.

The site is beside the valley road, with a small parking area, and is a waypoint on the Mullerthal Trail, which continues from there through the forest toward Berdorf, Consdorf and Beaufort. A short path along the stream links the waterfall to the village of Müllerthal.

Because it is easy to reach, the Schiessentümpel often gets crowded on summer weekends. The surrounding rocks are smooth: do not climb on them to take photos.
