About Prince Charles Beach
Prince Charles Beach is on Taveuni’s north coast, a little south of Matei Airport, on the other side of the coastal road. It is a light-sand beach, sheltered by tropical trees that provide shade nearly to the water, with views of the strait and the northern islands.
The name comes from a visit by the then Prince Charles of the United Kingdom, who bathed there. The beach is one of three that lie close together along this stretch of coast, along with Valaca and Beverly, and all can be visited on foot from Matei accommodations.
The water is usually calm, with a partly sandy bottom, good for swimming. The reef begins close to the shore and has corals and reef fish for snorkeling with mask and fins.
There are no facilities on the beach: bring water, food and snorkeling gear. Some local accommodations lend or rent equipment.
