Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Check before buying. San Sebastián airport is in Hondarribia, about 5 km away; Bilbao airport is about 1 h 15 by car. Irún station has trains from Madri and regional trains, and the surface metro (Euskotren) connects the city to San Sebastián. On the French side, the train arrives at Hendaye, on the other side of the river.
How many days
Half a day is enough for the Oiasso museum, the Juncal church and the view of the ilha dos Faisões. With a full day you can include Plaiaundi park and the climb to Monte San Marcial. Many people combine Irún with San Sebastián, about 20 km away, or with Hendaye on the other side of the bridge.
When to go
From June to September it usually rains less and is less cold. On June 30 the Alarde de San Marcial takes place, the city's main festival, and the streets fill up. On the Basque coast it rains much of the year, more in autumn and winter.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. Trains and the Euskotren connect Irún to San Sebastián, and the center is walkable. For Monte San Marcial and Plaiaundi park you can go on foot or by bicycle, or by car to reach the top of the hill.
