About Vereda del Lago Park
Vereda del Lago follows the shore of Lake Maracaibo along Avenida El Milagro in the north of the city. The first stage opened on November 18, 1978, the day of la Chinita, under the name Paseo del Lago. Later the park was transferred to the city government and renamed; in 2001 it was declared a metropolitan park.
It covers about 65 hectares of open space, with paths for walking, running, cycling and skating, courts, playgrounds and tree-shaded areas. Many residents go early in the morning and late afternoon when the heat eases.
From the shore you get a wide view of the lake. To the south, in the distance, appears the silhouette of the General Rafael Urdaneta bridge, which links Maracaibo to the eastern shore.
The avenue name, El Milagro, comes from the Chinita tradition: the washerwoman who found the plank with the image of the Virgin in 1709 lived nearby and cried out “¡Milagro!”.
