About Ájtte

Ájtte is located in the center of Jokkmokk and is dedicated to Sámi culture and the mountain landscapes of northern Sweden. The exhibitions present Sápmi as a living territory of relationships that cross national borders. The museum lets you explore topics that are not limited to the winter period.

Objects, clothing and duodje works, the Sámi handicraft, appear alongside interpretations about environment and ways of life. Allow time for the voices and contexts presented, and avoid treating the Sámi people as part of a tourist backdrop. The museum also provides information about the Laponia region.

The visit can take a significant part of the day. In summer, the alpine garden associated with the institution offers another stage with its own hours. Confirm the visiting areas and program before arriving, especially if travel from Luleå depends on buses and connections.
