About Hoyo Azul

Hoyo Azul is a cenote, an open cavity in limestone where groundwater emerges, at the foot of a roughly 75‑meter rock cliff covered in vegetation. The water is an intense turquoise blue and so clear you can see the bottom, over ten meters deep. The site sits in the middle of the forest, a few kilometers from the sea.

To get there you walk a short, flat trail among native trees, plants and rock formations, with signs about the local flora. At the end, a staircase descends to the pool’s edge, where a wooden platform provides access to the water. The temperature is cool, and the depth requires a life jacket for those who are not strong swimmers.

Hoyo Azul is inside Scape Park, an adventure park in Cap Cana, and the visit is done as part of the park’s activities, which include zip lines, caves and horseback rides. Access is organized and limited in number, which helps keep the water clean.
