Melton Mowbray is a market town in east Leicestershire, in the East Midlands of England, surrounded by fields, hedgerows and small stone villages. It has had a street market since the Middle Ages and a town centre with old houses around the market square and St Mary’s Church, the county’s largest parish church.

The town is tied to food: it gives its name to the Melton Mowbray pork pie, the protected pork pie with a geographical indication, and lies at the heart of the Stilton cheese region. The town museum tells this story alongside the fox-hunting tradition that shaped Melton in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Around it, Belvoir Castle, home of the Dukes of Rutland, dominates the Vale of Belvoir to the north, and Rutland Water, a large reservoir with a nature reserve and cycle path, lies to the east. Leicester, the county city, is about 25 km away.
