How many days
One day is enough for the centre, the Sé, the ship Gil Eannes and the funicular ride up to Santa Luzia with the citânia. With two days you have time for the Museu do Traje, the bridge, the Cabedelo beaches and the Lima valley. Many people do a day trip from Porto by train.
When to go
From June to September it usually rains less, and the Cabedelo beaches are popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers. The romaria da Senhora da Agonia takes place in August, around the 20th, and the town becomes very busy. Winters are rainy.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The train links Viana with Porto and Vigo, the centre is walkable and the funicular goes up to Santa Luzia from the station. A car is useful for the Lima valley and the mountain villages.
