The Museo Municipal Vicús is in downtown Piura, at the corner of Avenida Sullana and Jirón Huánuco. It is the city's main museum for learning about the region's history before and after the arrival of the Spaniards.
The galleries cover topics such as Piuran archaeology, the territory, death in pre-Hispanic Piura, the first settlers of Peru, and the impact of climate on cultural heritage in a region affected by the rains of the El Niño phenomenon.
The highlight is the Gold Room, with 62 gold objects that show the metalworking techniques of the Vicús culture, which developed in Alto Piura. Vicús ceramics, including vessels and figurines, also have a dedicated section.
