About Glenorchy Walkway
The Glenorchy Lagoon Walkway is a public circuit of about 3.2 km starting from the village and circling the lagoon formed near the mouth of the Dart and Rees rivers at the head of Lake Wakatipu. Much of the path runs on wooden boardwalks over the water and reeds.
The route is flat and easy, with benches and interpretation panels about the birds and plants of the wetland. Ducks, black swans and other waterbirds are commonly seen, and the still water reflects the surrounding mountains, such as Mount Earnslaw on clear days.
Before or after the walk, it’s worth visiting the village jetty with the small red boat shed, one of Glenorchy’s most photographed spots with the lake and mountains in the background.
