About Fábrica La Aurora
La Fábrica La Aurora was a cotton spinning and weaving mill opened in 1902 on the northern edge of San Miguel de Allende, which operated until the end of the 20th century. The brick sheds and iron structures were preserved when the space became an art and design center in 2004.
Today it houses dozens of galleries, artists' studios, furniture, antiques and home-decor shops, and cafés. You can see artists at work and talk with them in the open studios.
Some of the factory machines remain on display in the corridors, along with panels about the site's history and its workers.
It is about a 15-minute walk from the center, a flat walk along the street that leads from the Guadalupe neighborhood.
