The city

What to expect from Chiapa de Corzo.

Chiapa de Corzo is a colonial town on the banks of the Grijalva River, about 15 km from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, founded by the Spaniards in 1528. In the main square stands La Pila, a Mudejar brick fountain shaped like a crown. From the town's dock the boats that traverse the Sumidero Canyon depart. In January, the Gran Fiesta with the parachicos is UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
