About Lac d'Echternach (Lago de Echternach)
Echternach Lake lies at the town entrance, about a 20-minute walk from the centre, in a valley surrounded by wooded hills. It is an artificial lake of around 30 hectares, created in the 1970s for leisure, and it was during the works that the Roman villa was found, now open to visitors on the shore.
A flat path circles the lake and is used by walkers, joggers and cyclists. There are lawns, benches, picnic areas, playgrounds and a centre with a restaurant. In summer pedal boats and rowboats are often available to hire; swimming is usually not permitted, check the signs.
The lake is also a starting point for walks: routes head from here to the Wolf Gorge and onto the Mullerthal Trail, and a treetop adventure park typically operates in season.
For those spending the day in Echternach, the lake is a peaceful stop between the town and the trails, especially in the late afternoon.
