About Gorge du Loup (Garganta do Lobo)

The Wolf Gorge, Wollefsschlucht in Luxembourgish, is Echternach's best-known trail. It cuts through a narrow cleft between tall sandstone cliffs, in a beech forest less than 2 km from the centre, and is part of circuit 1 of the Mullerthal Trail.

The route starts on foot from Echternach, climbs through the wood and enters the gorge via stone steps and passages between the rocks, covered in moss and ferns. Little light gets through, and even in summer the air stays cool and damp. Other rock formations and small viewpoints appear along the trail.

At the top, the Troosknäppchen viewpoint looks back over Echternach, with the basilica, the Sûre valley and the German side. The trail is usually done as a circuit of about 1h30 to 2 hours from the town centre, with climbs, descents and steps.

From there, those who want to walk further can continue along the Mullerthal Trail towards Berdorf and the region's rock formations, following waymarked forest paths.
