About Villa Borghese
Villa Borghese began as Cardinal Scipione Borghese's country villa in the early 17th century, with gardens, fountains and the Casino that today houses the Galleria Borghese. Purchased by the state at the end of the 19th century, it became a public park of about 80 hectares.
Inside there is a small lake with the Tempio di Esculapio, a Greek-style temple on an island, where you can row in rented boats. There are also the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome's zoo, the Bioparco, and the Casa del Cinema.
On the west side, the Pincio terrace offers one of the best-known views of Rome, over the Piazza del Popolo and the roofs up to St. Peter's dome. The Pincio paths are lined with busts of notable Italians.
The park links the Piazza di Spagna, via the Trinità dei Monti, to the Piazza del Popolo and the Via Veneto. It's possible to rent bicycles and electric carts to get around.
