About Foro Romano e Palatino
The Foro Romano was the main square of ancient Rome, in the valley between the Palatine and Capitoline hills. There stood temples, courts, the senate and triumphal arches. Today you walk along the Via Sacra, the route of processions and victory parades.
Among the ruins are the Curia, where the senate met, the Temple of Vesta, guarded by the Vestal virgins, the Temple of Saturn, with its columns in front of the Capitoline, and the arches of Titus and Septimius Severus. The Arch of Titus shows in relief the spoils from the Temple in Jerusalem brought to Rome.
The Palatine, just above, is the hill where, according to legend, Romulus founded Rome. The emperors built their palaces there, such as the Domus Flavia and the Domus Augustana, and the word palatine gives 'palace'. From the gardens you can see the Foro on one side and the Circo Massimo on the other.
The area is part of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. The same Coliseu ticket is valid for the Foro and the Palatine, and there are tickets only for these two areas.
