The city
Santa Margherita Ligure is a seaside resort town on the Gulf of Tigullio, between Rapallo and Portofino. It has a fishing and pleasure harbour, a seafront lined with palm trees and 19th-century villas. In the centre are the Basilica di Santa Margherita d'Antiochia and, on the hill, Villa Durazzo, with a park and views over the gulf. It is the most practical base for visiting Portofino.
