The city
Gênova is the capital of Ligúria and one of the major ports of the Mediterranean. The historic center, with narrow alleys called caruggi, stretches from the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo to the Piazza De Ferrari and down to the Porto Antico, where the Acquario di Genova is located. On Via Garibaldi are the Palazzi dei Rolli, a UNESCO World Heritage site. To the east, Boccadasse is a fishing village within the city; to the west, the Lanterna is the lighthouse that became a symbol of the port.
