About Sopron Fire Tower
The Tűztorony marks the entrance to Sopron’s historic core. The tower comprises parts from different periods, built atop structures linked to the city’s old defenses. Its name refers to its role as a fire-watch tower, while its elevated form makes it a landmark of the main square.
Climbing it lets you observe the layout of roofs and the organization of the town’s streets. This view helps explain why Sopron works better as a walking destination than as a series of car trips. The square itself offers another perspective from the tower’s base.
Allow time for the steps and to linger on the upper level. Afterwards, continue through the streets of the historic core, noting the facades and the block scale. Check access to the viewpoint before deciding the order of visits to nearby historic houses.
