About Kilenclyukú híd

The Kilenclyukú híd crosses the Hortobágy River with a sequence of nine arches. Its low, elongated design follows the flat horizon of the surroundings. Built in the 19th century, the bridge has become a visual reference for the region.

The wider ends relate to the crossing’s use by herds and travelers. Viewing the structure from the riverbank helps to understand this function, as well as the repetition of arches and the reflections when water and light allow.

Include the bridge on arrival at the Hortobágy core, without confusing the monument with the entire national park area. The observation walk can be short, but other programs on the plain need their own planning. Look for permitted access points on the bank to frame the whole ensemble.
