About Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park

The Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park protects a flatland landscape in eastern Hungary. Pastures, saline soils and wetlands form an open horizon, different from the Bükk hills and the historic quarters of the capital. Animal husbandry is part of the territory’s history of use.

Visits require choosing a sector and an approach. Visitor centers, authorized paths and guided activities are not all in the same place. The World Heritage recognition relates to the pastoral cultural landscape, not to an isolated monument.

Organize your outing from Debrecen with a defined program. Birdwatching and plain activities depend on season and conditions; between September and November there are often migratory movements of some species, without guarantee of sightings. Book in advance on the official website when required.
