About Waitavala Waterslide (Waitavala Waterslide)
The Waitavala slide is on the Waitavala River in the forest above Waiyevo on Taveuni’s west coast. Over a stretch of about 50 meters, water flows over smooth volcanic rock, forming a natural slide that ends in a pool.
Locals, especially children, slide down sitting or lying down with a skill that impresses visitors. First-timers usually start at the lower, shorter section and watch the water’s path before attempting the full run.
Access is a roughly 20-minute walk from Waiyevo along a dirt road and a short forest trail. The land belongs to the local community, which may charge a small fee.
The water’s strength changes with rainfall: after storms the current can be too strong to ride, and in the dry season the flow may be weak. It’s wise to ask locals about conditions that day.
