About Nakama Hot Springs (Nakama Hot Springs)

The Nakama hot springs are in the center of Savusavu, a short walk from the main street and the bay. Water emerges from the ground with steam and a sulfur smell, in a fenced area, a reminder of Vanua Levu’s volcanic origin.

Water temperatures reach close to 100 °C, and locals use the springs for cooking: it’s common to see bags of cassava, taro or banana immersed in the pools, which are ready after some time. Because of the heat, it is not a place for bathing.

The area has been renovated and features paths and panels that explain the springs. The steam rising from the pools is most visible early in the morning and on cool days.

The visit is short and is done on foot, as part of a walk through Savusavu’s town center and marina.
