About Lavena Coastal Walk (Lavena Coastal Walk)
The Lavena coastal trail starts in the village of Lavena, at the southern end of Bouma National Heritage Park, where the east-coast road of Taveuni ends. The visitor center, run by the village, charges an entrance fee and points out the route.
It is about 5 km one way, along dark-sand beaches, stretches of forest, bridges over streams and viewpoints over the sea. Along the way you pass small villages and places linked to local stories.
The trail ends at Wainibau waterfall, which drops into a narrow canyon. To reach it you must swim a few meters between rock walls, in a deep cool stretch of water. The waterfall has two side-by-side falls that drop into a pool.
The trail is mostly flat but long, and requires a full day for the round trip from Matei. Some accommodations offer a boat return along the coast when sea conditions allow.
