The city

What to expect from Santa Maria.

An agricultural city in northern Santa Barbara County on California’s Central Coast, at the center of a valley of strawberries, vegetables and vineyards. It’s the home of Santa Maria–style barbecue, cooked over oak coals. The town has a valley history museum and an aviation museum by the airport, and serves as a base for the Guadalupe dunes and La Purísima Mission.
