About Town Hall Square
La Plaça de l'Ajuntament, or Plaza del Ayuntamiento, is the main square of Valencia's modern center. It is triangular and is flanked by eclectic and modernist buildings built between the late 19th century and the 1940s, when the city demolished old blocks to open the space.
The town hall building, the Casa Consistorial, has a clock tower and a balcony from which the fallera mayor and officials watch the festival. Inside there is a small municipal history museum, with the conquest banner and the crystal hall. Opposite stands the Edifici de Correus, the post office building, with a glass dome in the main hall.
During Las Fallas, the square hosts the mascletà, a gunpowder and noise spectacle that usually takes place every day at 14:00 from March 1 to 19, and the municipal falla, erected in the center. The rest of the year there are flower shops and it is a passage point between Estación del Norte and Ciutat Vella.
