About Capela de San Telmo
The Capela de San Telmo is in Tui's old town, near the cathedral, on the site of the house where, according to tradition, são Pedro González Telmo died — a 13th-century Dominican friar, patron of sailors and of the town. The chapel was built in the 18th century.
The style is the northern Portuguese baroque, called barroco minhoto, rare in Galícia and a sign of the proximity to Valença and Braga. The façade features dressed stone and a balcony, and inside are frescoes from the early 19th century.
In the crypt, which is often open, is the space tradition points to as the saint's room. São Telmo is celebrated in Tui with festivities in spring, around Easter.
The capela is a short stop, but it clearly shows how the border mixed traditions on both sides of the river.
