About Igrexa de Santa María de Muxía
The church of Santa María is the parish church of Muxía and stands in the upper part of the village, on the way to the santuario da Barca. It is a church of the so-called 14th-century seafaring Gothic, a style of the fishing villages on the Galician coast, simple and solid, although it preserves Romanesque forms such as the columns, capitals and the central portal.
The church has a single nave and is built of granite, with thick walls to withstand the wind and humidity of the coast. Beside it is the small parish cemetery, with a view of the sea.
Just above the church rises the monte do Corpiño, a rocky height with paths and viewpoints. From the top you can see the whole peninsula of Muxía, the harbor, the cove, the santuario da Barca and, on clear days, the coast as far as cabo Touriñán.
The hill can be visited at any time, on foot.
