About Sancti Spiritus e Museo da Terra de Melide
In the centre of Melide, on the Plaza del Convento, are the church of the former convent of Sancti Spiritus and the Museu da Terra de Melide. The convent was founded in the 14th century and was home to Franciscan friars until the 19th century. The church, now parish, combines Gothic structure with later alterations and preserves altarpieces and stone tombs of local noble families.
Next door is the building of the former pilgrim hospital, which used to shelter those passing along the Caminho. Today it houses the Museu da Terra de Melide, a small municipal museum packed with artefacts.
The museum presents the history of the comarca from prehistory, with objects from the castros and the region's megalithic monuments, to traditional rural life, with farming tools, domestic objects, old trades and the history of the Camino de Santiago in Melide.
It is a short visit, good for getting the feel of the village.
