About Porto de Fisterra
The port of Fisterra is the village centre and one of the most active fishing ports on the Costa da Morte. The colorful boats dock in front of the fishermen's stone houses that climb the slope, and the waterfront has benches and sidewalks to watch the activity.
At the lonxa, the port's fish market, the catch brought in from the sea is sold at auction. At certain times, the lonxa allows visitors to follow the auction from a gallery without disturbing the work; check before you go if and when this is possible.
The region's catch includes octopus, percebes (goose barnacles) collected from the coastal rocks, shellfish, fish such as sole and sea bass, and fish broth. The port restaurants serve what comes in on the boats.
From the port you can see the bay of Fisterra and, in the background, Langosteira beach, a long sandy beach where pilgrims arriving on foot from Santiago come ashore.
