About Igrexa de Santiago de Betanzos
The church of Santiago stands next to the main square of Betanzos and is the third of the town's large Gothic churches. It was built between the 14th and 15th centuries, over an earlier church, and is connected to the tailors' guild, which sponsored it.
Above the main portal is the figure of Santiago on horseback, the knightly Santiago of medieval legend, carved in stone. The interior has three naves with pointed arches, and side chapels with altarpieces from different periods.
The church tower can be seen from several points in the town. Around it, the narrow streets of the historic center descend toward the rivers Mandeo and Mendo.
