About Ponte e hospital de Ribadiso
Ribadiso is a small spot on the banks of the Iso River, on the Camino Francés, about 3 km before the center of Arzúa for those coming from Melide. The Camino crosses the river via a small medieval single‑arch stone bridge, surrounded by trees and meadows.
Next to the bridge is the old pilgrims’ hospital of San Antón, mentioned since the Middle Ages. The hospital’s stone houses were restored at the end of the 20th century and converted into a public pilgrims’ albergue, retaining traditional Galician architecture with slate roofs and granite walls.
The ensemble of the bridge, the river and the albergue is one of the most recognized images of the final stretch of the Camino Francés. In summer, pilgrims often rest in the riverside meadows, and many stop there to sleep before continuing to Arzúa.
Those not walking the Camino can reach Ribadiso on foot from Arzúa by following the Camino in the opposite direction of the pilgrims.
