About Porto da Guarda

The port of A Guarda is the heart of the village. It is an active fishing port, protected by a breakwater, with fishing boats, net warehouses and the lonxa, where fish is sold. Around it, houses with balconies and colorful facades form one of the most photographed landscapes of the lower Minho coast.

The village is known for lobster, caught off the coast and served in the seafront restaurants, which also offer octopus, percebes (goose barnacles), mussels, scallops and grilled fish. The lobster has its own festival in the village in summer.

On the promenade, next to the port, is the small Museo do Mar, which tells the story of fishing and the life of A Guarda's fishermen, with nets, boat models and tools. The walk continues along the rocky seafront, with views of Monte de Santa Trega.

At night, the port and the nearby streets concentrate the village's bars and restaurants.
