About Aquarium Finisterrae
The Aquarium Finisterrae, called by locals Casa dos Peixes, is a center for outreach about the sea and marine life. It opened on June 5, 1999, and is part of the Museus Científicos Coruñeses, together with the Domus and the Casa das Ciências.
It is located on the edge of the promenade, between the Domus and the Torre de Hércules, which can be seen from the aquarium. The outdoor pools are connected to the Atlantic Ocean and follow the tides. Seals live there and can also be seen through windows below the waterline.
Inside, the tanks display species from the Galician coast and other seas, and interactive modules explain marine biology and oceanography. One of the most popular rooms is the Nautilus, a submerged room surrounded by a large tank, inspired by the submarine from Jules Verne's novel.
The aquarium receives many families.
