About Museo Helga de Alvear
The Museo Helga de Alvear, Centro de Artes Visuales Fundación Helga de Alvear, sits on the slope just below the Ciudad Monumental, near the Arco del Cristo. It brings together the collection of the German gallerist settled in Madrid, Helga de Alvear, a private contemporary art collection with thousands of works.
The museum occupies an early-20th-century modernist house, the Casa Grande, and a new building designed by Tuñón Arquitectos, with straight lines and white walls, featuring spacious galleries and natural light, fitted into the site's slope.
The collection ranges from the historical avant-gardes, with Kandinsky, Picasso and Josef Albers, to artists from around the world of recent decades, in painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation. Exhibitions rotate, showing different parts of the collection.
The contrast between the museum and the medieval towers just above it is part of the experience of visiting Cáceres.
