About Tren de Sóller

The Ferrocarril de Sóller opened in 1912 to carry the oranges and lemons from the Sóller valley to Palma, crossing the Serra de Tramuntana. Before the train, the mountain road trip took a whole day. The line is about 27 km long, passes through 13 tunnels and bridges, and climbs the range in curves with views over olive and almond valleys.

The carriages are varnished wood, with benches and windows that open, and the electric locomotives date from the 1920s. The trip takes about 1 hour and usually stops at the Pujol d'en Banya viewpoint, which overlooks the Sóller valley from above.

In Sóller, a village of stone houses with a church featuring a modernist façade, the train arrives at Plaça de sa Constitució. From there a 1913 tram descends 5 km to the Port de Sóller, a closed bay with a beach, restaurants and boats.

The station in Palma is at Plaza de España, next to the intermodal station. The line typically pauses in winter for maintenance.
