About Palau de l'Almudaina
The Palau Reial de l'Almudaina is next to the cathedral, on the old city wall. It was the alcázar of the Muslim governors of Mallorca and, after the 1229 conquest, became the residence of the Christian kings. The kings of the short-lived Kingdom of Mallorca rebuilt it in the 14th century in Gothic style, preserving its fortress structure.
The visit passes through the parade ground, the Saló del Tinell (a large Gothic hall with stone arches), and rooms decorated with Flemish tapestries, furniture and paintings from the Patrimonio Nacional collection. The chapel of Santa Ana, with a Romanesque portal, is one of the few Romanesque buildings in Mallorca.
The palace continues to be the official residence of the King of Spain in the Balearic Islands and is used for ceremonies and receptions; for that reason, visits may be suspended on some days. In the gardens of s'Hort del Rei, beneath the wall, there are fountains, arches and sculptures.
From the terrace you can see the bay and the port.
