About Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani

Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma occupies the Sant Pere bastion, one of the Renaissance fortifications of the city wall from the 16th century, on the western edge of the old town, next to the Santa Catalina neighborhood. The museum opened in 2004, with a new concrete-and-glass building fitted between the old walls.

The collection brings together modern and contemporary art linked to the Balearic Islands, with works by Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Miquel Barceló, Antoni Tàpies, artists who worked on the island in the 20th century and Mallorcan painters. Temporary exhibitions take up a large portion of the space.

The route includes the aljibe, a former fortress cistern used as an exhibition hall, and the walkways on the wall, with terraces open to the bay, the harbor and the cathedral.

The terrace has a café and is a good spot for late afternoon.
