About Museu del Joguet de Catalunya

The Museu del Joguet de Catalunya opened in 1982 in the former Hotel París, the mansion of the Baron of Terradas on the Rambla, Figueres' main promenade. It was later expanded, and today occupies three times its original space.

The collection exceeds 4,000 items: zoetropes, toy theaters, cardboard horses, dolls, puppets, toy soldiers, trains, toy cars, magic sets and robots. Many are accompanied by old photographs of children playing, which help date each object.

Some pieces belonged to well-known names, such as Salvador Dalí and his sister Anna Maria, the poet Federico García Lorca and the painter Joan Miró. The route shows how technical advances and artistic movements changed toy design.

The museum is a few minutes' walk from the Teatre-Museu Dalí and is a good stop for those traveling with children. It also has a documentation center on games and toys and a terrace used for activities.
