The city
Mindo is a small village on the western slopes of the Andes, at about 1,250 meters and 80 km from Quito, in the middle of the cloud forest. It lives off nature tourism: trails, waterfalls, the tarabita over the Nambillo valley, butterflies, hummingbirds and hundreds of bird species. Farms in the area showcase cacao cultivation and chocolate production. The climate is humid and warmer than Quito's.
